Company History

Alex E. Paris Contracting Company was founded in 1928 by Alex Paris an Italian immigrant. The company began working on WPA projects doing primarily road building. The company later ventured into the coal mining industry and during the 1930s, 1940s, and early 1950s ran a large coal mining operation. During the late 1950s Alex Paris, Sr. was succeeded by his son Emanuel, who took the company from the mining industry into the underground utility business. During the late 1960s and early 1970s the company ventured into the industrial services business and then later into heavy construction.

Today, Alex E. Paris Contracting Co., Inc. is a full service heavy construction firm with an equipment division and an industrial service division. The company is very diverse and employs over 100 people. It provides almost any type of construction or industrial services needed.

The company is a family owned business and is run by the Paris family. Currently E. Alex Paris III, Emanuel's son, is the President and C.E.O. of the company. Timothy A. Paris is a Vice-President in operations.

Throughout the history of the company, the company has received many construction and safety awards. Recognition from the State of Pennsylvania for Excellence in Highway Design Award, recognition for the construction of a 15-acre Wetland, repeated recognition in Engineering News Record as one of the largest underground utility contractors in the country and recognition on Construction Equipment as a top construction equipment owner. Emanuel A. Paris received the National Rebuilding America Award from CIT for his effort in creating the Penn Vest Funding Agency, which is a SRF Funding Agency for the state of Pennsylvania.

The company is actively involved and are members of National Utility Contractors Association, the Pennsylvania Utility Contractors Association, the West Virginia Contractors Association, the American General Contractors Association, and the Associated Builders and Contractors Association. Emanuel A. Paris, who ran the company from the late 1950s until 1989, passed away in 1989 and was a loss to the company, as well as to the Pennsylvania Underground Utility Construction Industry. He was an innovator and a very forward proactive member of the above associations, as well as being active in his local community.

The company's corporate office is located in Atlasburg, Pennsylvania, which is located between Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, PA on State Route 18. The facilities include several equipment storage yards, a truck shop, an equipment shop, warehouse space, an engine rebuild shop, a machine shop, and a parts warehouse, all located on the 60-acre industrial park, which several other tenants occupy.

Alex E. Paris Contracting Co., Inc.'s commitment to employee safety is second to none. The company offers and requires continuous safety training, including 40 Hr Training, Haz-Mat Training, Lock-Out/Tag-Out Training, Confined Space Entry, Trench Safety Training, Competent Person Training, and a variety of different types of safety training meeting the needs of the company's diverse operations. The company has been awarded several awards for its Safety Program.

The primary area of operations is Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Eastern Ohio and Western Maryland. Large projects outside of this area are considered on an individual basis.
